SET 2007 Trips and Pancakes??

YOUTH NEWS:
Pancake Breakfast for Sunday School – December 31st 10-10:50am in the youth floor- for high school, middle school students –(maybe college students too :)

What are you do this summer? Join us as we discuss the upcoming 2007 SET trips Sunday night, January 21st 6:30-7:30pm in the youth lounge.

SET 2007-Can you believe we are already getting ready for it? Here is a brief look at our 2007 summer:

MS Mission- June 17-22 Daytona Beach FL (Youth Works)

Today, the Daytona Beach area entertains approximately 8 million visitors each year. Yet, in the midst of the sunshine, tourists and fun, one can discover residents struggling to find hope and opportunity. With a high cost of living, a significantly lower than average per capita income and a high unemployment rate, 23.6% of the population lives below the poverty line. Within view of the resorts and beaches, lies a section of poverty and racially divided neighborhoods. Our group will have the opportunity to help bridge gaps and be the light of Christ to those in need. Ministry includes: running a Kids Club, working alongside numerous social service organizations to support children ministries, the elderly and the homeless. Salvation Army – partner with a children’s camp; WORC – work with adults with special needs; Terrace of Daytona – visit with the elderly; and Coalition for the Homeless – serve the homeless.

HS Mission – July 14-28 Costa Rica (Leader Treks)

The natural beauty of Costa Rica attracts many visitors who never realize the overwhelming needs of the children of this emerging nation. Tens of thousands of children are living day to day on the streets of Costa Rica. LeaderTreks partners with the Viva Network to empower the local churches to meet this urgent need. Your group will work with a local ministry to provide housing for at-risk children. Your work will enable these churches to rescue children from the streets. Opportunities abound for outreach to the local communities and real work projects include the building of an orphanage or hospital. Ministry will involve hard work, construction, and local ministry. Please note that this is a trip for student leaders (application required) and is a 2 week trip.

SET IN-HOUSE Mission (open to both HS & MS students) – August 2007 Tampa

We will be partnering with local organizations like America’s Second Harvest (food bank) and Faith Café (feed the homeless) again for a week devoted to mission and fellowship. Students have full days of work and fun – like a regular mission trip, but sleep in their own beds. Dates TBA.

Brochures and applications are in the mail, however if you are still in need of one they will be available in the youth office after Monday. Thanks!!!
